Story behind Photos
My experience with lobsters include working on lobster boats, at sea food markets, buying lobster directly from large fishing vessels, packing and shipping them in airplane containers. I am fascinated by the variations found in these sea crustaceans and love to photograph the unique and rare ones to educate and share with others.
Split Orange
A friend told me of a news report staying that the dock at Allen’s Seafood in Harpswell Maine had five rare colored lobsters. I made a quick road trip down the coast to see these unique lobsters. The owner let me interact with these colorful crustaceans while photographing them. One of the rarest of rare is the split colored orange and brown lobster. It occurs once in every 50 million according to the Lobster Institute at the University of Maine in Orono. Most lobsters are a dark blue-green or greenish brown before they are cooked. It is a privilege to share and educate others with photos of these rare colored amazing creatures.
