Why the heartwind name?
Heart Image
February 2005, I traveled with Habitat for Humanity to build a house in Guatemala. This experience changed my life forever. On the job site I played with the mason’s daughter Josselin. My Spanish is very limited. This child was touching my heart deeply and I was trying to communicate without words. The Friday before Valentines day I sat with my new friend and made a heart. I used the wire we were tying the rebar with to build the house. I said “heart.” She replied “corazon” and smiled. I still have that heart and it is one of my favorite possessions. This heart became the logo for Heartwind.
Name/Quote
February 2006, I went to a remote Mayan village in Guatemala to teach art, create a website, and discuss building a library. The day before going to the village I met a man named Les in a coffee shop. I explained that I did not know how, but I was going to help build a library and get books to these children. He said, “If your heart is there, the wind will take you.” These words spoke to my heart and I wrote them down. I decided to name my nonprofit organization and company Heartwind. I called Les to ask who said that quote. I was thinking it was a poet or famous person. He explained they were just words that came to him as I explained my goals with passion. That is the origin of the quote.
“If your heart is there, the wind will take you.”
