Story behind Photos
My experience with lobsters include working on lobster boats, at sea food markets, buying lobster directly from large fishing vessels, packing and shipping them in airplane containers. I am fascinated by the variations found in these sea crustaceans and love to photograph the unique and rare ones to educate and share with others.
Baby Lobster
For 6 years I lived right behind a sea wall of a coastal New England community. Nor’easters were a constant challenge to my street and surrounding areas. During one of these storms a friend called to say he had a baby lobster on his front steps. Due to the flooding I couldn’t get to his house to get the lobster so he met me on a side street. As the ocean waves were still smashing over the sea wall it was no place for this little guy. The baby lobster had a make shift home in a baking pan with sand, rocks, sea water and items from the ocean. In photographing him I was trying to figure out how to show his tiny size. As most people are familiar with the size of a mussel shell I decided to use one in the photos. So that is the story of Baby 01 and Baby 02.
